How are dissidence, resistance and mental destabilization expressed within the means of fine art? What kind of visual vocabulary can be used to supplement or counter mass-media representations? The Promise, The Land, an exhibition and catalogue, present ways in which Jewish-Israeli artists have come to terms with questions of history and identity in the ever-fractious Middle East.
