Publisher's Synopsis
Excerpt from The Presbyterian Journal, Vol. 29: May 6, 1970
Introduction: The title of today's lesson 18 Law Versus Grace. We are dealing with the most impor tant question: How are we saved? Are we saved by our works or by the free gift of God through His Son Jesus Christ? The controversy over this question did not end-with Paul or the first century. It continues today. But we can be very thankful that the controversy did arise in the age of the apostles so that a very clear an swer could be given to the question for all the churches to hear down through the centuries. A great number of churches today, insist that human works are meces sary for man's salvation. Due to pride, man refuses to accept the fact of 'his total inability to do anything toward his salvation. It is human nature to reject the fact that we must rely totally on Christ. We are more inclined to insist on sharing with Jesus in the credit for our own salvation.
