Publisher's Synopsis
The North and the South had evolved in very different ways both economically and politically. In particular, the South s agricultural economy revolved around the institution of slavery. When Abraham Lincoln was elected president in 1860, the victory was seen by the South as the North s attempt to impose its anti-slavery measures on it.
