Into the Bible Belt town of Caldwell, Arkansas walks a stranger; ragged, beaten to a pulp, and suffering from amnesia. Fitting no easy stereotype, he is a mystery and no mistake. Holy Man? Grifter? Devil Incarnate? Man for all seasons? Asking for nothing he is given everything, good, bad, and in between. Finding in his hosts graciousness and generosity on the one hand, and suspicion and mistrust on the other, he begins the long, arduous road back to self-knowledge. But then, accused of a spate of murders which rock Caldwell, he flees, eloping with a young vixen pregnant with with his child. For both it is a road fraught with violence and betrayal, but also of redemption. The stranger leaves as many impressions as snowflakes have shapes, but no one in Caldwell will ever be the same after meeting him.
