Publisher's Synopsis

Excerpt from The Petition of Charles Goodyear, Jr., Executor: For the Extension of Letters Patient, Granted to Charles Goodyear, Deceased, for the Invention of Vulcanized India Rubber

Your petitioner, therefore, respectfully prays, that the Letters patent of Charles Goodyear may be ex tended for seven years from the 15th day of June, 1865. Congress has, in repeated instances, granted similar prayers, when presented by meritorious in ventors Who were living, and who were able in their lifetime to realize from their inventions both the honor and the profit to which they were entitled. The present application differs from others, in that it is made to enable his survivors to render the most grateful tribute to his memory, by the payment of those debts which weighed heavily upon him in the last hours of his existence, and to provide for those helpless ones whose only wealth is the honor of bearing the name, and the happiness of having shared the affections of this great public benefactor.
