Publisher's Synopsis

This volume is divided into three parts. The first of these ends in February 1579 with the death of Sir Nicholas Bacon and bears the stamp of his forceful personality. The second is dominated by a superb series of accounts and letters relating to the Lord Keeper's funeral and to the execution of his will. These provide valuable insights into the family, household and social circle of a major figure at the Elizabethan court as well as illuminating the scale of, and the social conventions surrounding the funeral of a Tudor aristocrat. The remaining part, covering the years to 1585, consists of papers relating to Nathaniel Bacon's family affairs and, increasingly, to aspects of his involvement in local administration.Published jointly by the Centre of East Anglian Studies and the Norfolk Record Society.
