Publisher's Synopsis

Francis Hamel is an internationally acclaimed artist with studios in Oxfordshire and Italy. He trained at the Ruskin School of Art whilst at Magdalen College and first started painting Oxford twenty five years ago. He teaches drawing at The Ruskin.

In 2019 he had an exhibition of portraits and Theatre paintings at the V&A in London and has work in the Ashmolean, at Fortnum and Mason and in numerous public and private collections including HRH King Charles III.

Since 1995 he has been represented by the John Martin Gallery in Albemarle Street in London. This book combines three collections of a hundred paintings made since 2000, accompanied by a selection of writing about Oxford, including Oscar Wilde, Evelyn Waugh, Barbara Pym, Iris Murdoch and Philip Pullman, skilfully compiled by Ronald J Caffrey.

An exhibition of the latest collection of paintings will be held at Magdalen College from 13-16th March and then at The John Martin Gallery from 27th March - 25th April.
