From the gate house two 18-foot diameter steel and concrete conduits lead the water underground through Queen Victoria Park for a mile, the first conduit terminating at the over?ow and the sec ond at the surge tank. The purpose of the over?ow and surge tank is to pre vent undue rise of pressure in the con duits in case of a sudden decrease in the amount of water required for power, the surge tank also serving to provide water for an increase in power while the water in the conduits is accelerating.
