Set in the bible belt of the Midwest Megan Anderson tragically loses her husband, mother and father in a collision with a drunk driver. She is newly pregnant and has no life insurance or any means to support herself and her unborn child. James Chandler, her husband's best friend offers an unusual and unconventional solution to her problem. He offers to marry her knowing that she will refuse to live with him other wise and after one year she will be free to go her own separate way. There is to be no consummation and no strings attached. She agrees and he hires her as his teacher's assistant in his high school class. They are drawn unwittingly into the life of one of his students who is about to fall prey to a human trafficker.
