The Old Man in the Corner (1914) - Created in the wake of the Sherlock Holmes phenomenon, the Old Man in the Corner is an armchair detective who solves crimes in the corner of a genteel London tea-room in conversation with a female journalist. He relies on sensational newspaper accounts and courtroom visit. The plots often involve unhappy marriages and the division of family property. In one of the tales, there is a murder in the London Underground. In another a doctor is murdered.
