Dr. Skinner has had under his observation up to the present time 160 cases of this disease, and the results obtained are as follows: 25 per cent. have been apparently cured; 65 per cent. have been benefited in varying degrees, and 10 per cent. hare been entirely uninfluenced by treatment. The conclusion appears to be justified that the prognosis under the later therapeutic methods is not nearly as gloomy as it has been in the past. SURGICAL SUGGESTIONS. LESLIE B. WIGCK3, M.D. For ulcerations that show but little tendency to heal, the following application will often prove effective: Balsimi Tolutani (or Peruvian!).... drs. i. Olei Ricini, drs. iv. M. Sig.--Apply on sterile gauze after the wound is thoroughly cleansed. Jacobi also reports the use ot this mixture in sinuses and old abscesses with very good results. In the treatment of fractures of the patella three indications are to be met, viz: (1) Stop hemorrhage and effusion into and around the joint; (2) secure approximation of the fragments until union occurs; (3) restore the function of the joint. The first indication can usually be met by applying a well padded posterior splint, elevate the limb and apply evenly a rubber bandage beginning from below and working upward. Leave the bandage on for two or three days. Operative treatment in the young and middle aged, and where there is not too much injury to the overlying skin, ia indicated, and will give the best results, provided the strictest asepsis is observed.
