Publisher's Synopsis
Rhetorical binaries are used extensively throughout the Coptic Gospel of Thomas, an early Christian text, but not much attention has been given to them and their origin. Dualistic thinking goes as far back as pre-dynastic Egypt (before 3100 BCE) and can be found, architecturally, in the Giza Pyramids. Pythagorean Number Theory and even cosmological theories today utilize oppositive systems. The implications for these rhetorical binaries being so ancient, yet so modern, are often overlooked: Jesus used rhetorical binaries because he understood Egyptian proto-mathematics, a Hermetic form of logical symbolism involving oppositive systems and Boolean algebra, and much of what he understood relates to today's theories about space and time.
