As a glorious autumn descends upon Thomasville, Indiana, the town's children are back in school. Molly Rae Edwards is, too--pursuing a degree in social work at Purdue University. while balancing her job at Kramer Drugs and being a single mom to not only her daughter Maudie, but also to her deceased husband's young son, Christopher. Her plan to adopt Christopher seems to be coming to fruition without a hitch, until a mysterious woman from New York, claiming to be Christopher's aunt, arrives on the scene.
