Publisher's Synopsis
The original Overland Monthly was founded in 1868. The magazine's intent was to boost California as a place to be taken seriously, boasting writers and poets talented enough to stand comparison with those in the east. This reincarnation of the Overland Monthly which you hold in your hands or view on your screen also has as its intent the boosting of California's reputation and the good-natured boasting of its charms. The New Overland Monthly will feature articles about California of value to anyone interested in the Golden State's past and present. It will run recurring pieces each month on: California Counties, Highways, Parks, History, Stories, Alternative History, and a California-centric List. This fourth issue dated October 2018 covers Butte County, California Highway 20, Castle Crags State Park, History from 1848 regarding the discovery of gold in California, Bret Harte's short story "The Luck of Roaring Camp," and an excerpt from Blackbird Crow Raven's alternative history book about California.
