Publisher's Synopsis
The heritage submerged around our coasts is a vital element in our historic environment. Developers need to take into account underwater archaeology when planning offshore activity. The maritime section of the National Monuments Office provides a source of information on this part of our heritage. The section was set up in 1992 and now contains over 30,000 records of wreck sites and features of potential archaeological interest. This book is an account of its creation. A joint policy document, "England's Coastal Heritage" is also available from the RCHME and English Heritage.
