At the time Joseph Smith gave the first Elders ln the church, Paul and the ancient apostles, to be their example by g1ving them the same calling, they were also warned concerning their fall. Notwithstanding the testimonies of Paul and his brethren, are written in the New Testa ment, yet thei1 doctrine was incomprehensible, and the darkness could not perceive it. For if 0111 brethren had done according to that which was writ ten and revealed unto Joseph from the beginning then the testimony of Paul and Peter would have been a testimony to us that they were also of the true apos tles and had authority from Jesus Christ to cry repen tance unto the world.
