The novel ends with another trial, almost a mirror image of the Scopes Trial, which establishes Darwinism as the only creation theory that may be taught legally "The issue of creationism versus Darwinism is not really at stake, and the author does not try to prove that either is right or wrong. What is wrong is pigheadedness. Freedom of expression, even in the classroom, is very much at stake in this novel, and no religious or scientific clique has a right to stifle it.
