Publisher's Synopsis
This book is the doctoral dissertation of Phillip J Silvia for a Doctor of Philosophy in Archaeology and Biblical History from Trinity Southwest University in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Dr. Silvia begins his work by documenting the existence of a thriving civilization occupying the Middle Ghor, the circular plain of the Jordan River Valley immediately north of the Dead Sea, that was previously unrecognized by archaeologists within the Levant. Evidence is then presented of the destruction event gleaned from his involvement as a field archaeologist with the Tall el-Hammam Excavation Project (TeHEP) and review of excavation reports and surveys of other sites throughout the Middle Ghor. He then presents his analysis of the data followed by his conclusions regarding the extent of the destruction, its long-lasting effects, and his hypothesis of the cause.
