Publisher's Synopsis

Excerpt from The Messenger, 1902, Vol. 37: A Magazine of the Literature of Catholic Devotion; 37th Year

Let us quote a last example, less shocking, but not less striking. Some thirty miles to the northward from the entrance to San Fran cisco Bay, the bold promontory of Point Reyes (punta de los Reyes) pushes out into the sea, embracing with its southerly shore a sheet of water known as Drake's Bay, which it protects from the strong north westerly winds of summer. Here, very probably, Sir Francis Drake lay for some five weeks in June and July, 1579 and it is recorded in the story of his voyage how he celebrated Divine worship on shore.
