It seems fitting upon the Opening of the second volume of the medical analectic that its friends should be greeted with our thanks for the cordial approval which they have awarded to our undertaking.
The substantial endorsement it has received confirms us in continuing the plan upon which the analectic was started, of meeting the requirements of the active portion of the Profession for frequent analysis and classification of the immense number of items of practical import to be found scattered throughout the mass of current medical literature.
This material as Observed is so voluminous in the English language alone, that the practitioners who most desire to avail themselves of the essentials of medical progress are those who have the least time at their disposal to devote to the amount of reading necessarily involved in examining it.
Special attention will continue to be devoted to compiling European medical news, and we have perfected arrangements which place at our disposal, promptly after publication, copies of the principal Continental medical journals, particularly those published in Great Britain.
These facilities enable the analectic to furnish the earliest items of professional news, not only abreast with, but frequently in advance of, any medical journal published in the United States.
Our European Exchanges, with those published in America, place before us current literature embracing every item of progress in the medical sciences throughout the world, and with these sources, from which the pages of the analectic will continue to be prepared, we can insure an exhaustive summary of practical news from all the medical centres of both hemispheres.
