While the many who have promptly replied to each inquiry deserve. And have, hearty thanks, it is true that a large number utterly fail to realize two facts: First, that, for their own interests, the collection and publication of such a diversity of information as is given in the manual saves them. Not all, but a very large number of inquiries from this and from Other countries; second, that the interests of others and the relation which each individual, and water-works, bears to all others, and the public character of the information sought demands a reasonable response to such solicitations as are made for a book like the manual.
