Publisher's Synopsis
This is a translation of the first volume of Marco da Cunha's work "Homem de Rapina: Fados, Versos e Trovas", originally written in Portuguese, with a select few poems in French and English from the original Portuguese edition. A couple of previously unpublished English-language poetry was included in this edition. In the first volume of the collection 'Marco da Cunha: Life and Work', the editor groups some of the most notable poems by the poet from Alentejo, born in Mora, in 1897. Throughout the book it is possible to have an overlook of the various themes that dominate the work of this worthy man, whose international recognition was always larger than in his own fatherland. 'The Man of Ravin' includes texts of several types, written in the so-called Silver Period of Marco da Cunha, a period from around 1915 to 1923, during which the Great War happened and deeply scarred the life of this true Portuguese artist.
