His father, also a Nathan Hale, was one Of the leading citizens Of New Eng land, the editor Of the first daily paper published in Boston, the Boston Daily Advertiser, and one Of the most public-spirited men of his time. Ed ward's mother was a Sister of the famous orator and publicist, Edward Everett, for whom the boy was named. Talent ran riot in the Hale family. Edward's Sister Lucretia became a celebrated author; his elder brother Nathan, an editor and college teacher.
