Now it is a remarkable circumstance, that during the period of the full force of those laws, the price of Wheat was, for upwards of sixty years, generally lower than on the continent; so much so, that our exports of Wheat exceeded, for many years, the imports, to the extent of quarters annually. I do not mean to say, either that this low price of Com was owing exclusively to the operation of those Corn Laws, or do I think that the low price was any certain indication of the prosperity of the country, and of the comforts and enjoyment of that plenty which is always taken for granted by the op.
