This is a reference for programmers and musicians writing MIDI (Musical Instrument Digital Interface) software or working with MIDI at a technical level, applicable to a range of machines/languages. It covers the basic functions of MIDI devices, the development of a real-time MIDI application and a "MIDI dictionary" that lists a message summary for all defined MIDI channel and system messages. Each summary contains a hexadecimal/binary listing of the bytes that compose the message, with a detailed explanation of usage and special cases. All the code examples are presented in English and PASCAL.
