Publisher's Synopsis

Excerpt from The Link, Vol. 31: A Magazine for Armed Forces Personnel; September, 1973

For her and many thousands like her in Labrador and Newfoundland the world-famous Grenfell Mission has been the difference between life and death. The mission was founded by Sir Wilfred Grenfell, the heroic doctor of Labrador who gave his life for the region.of subarctic tundra he found Eskimos, Indians and Whites eldng out an existence in abject poverty. In the first house he was called to he found a man dying of TB while his wife and six children looked on in helpless grief. All Grenfell could do was pray. Cod answered that prayer. For 42 years the doctor made his rounds on that coast, by ship, dog sled, and snowshoes, visit ing the sick in sod houses, skin tents, snow igloos, and often operating by the light of a kerosene lantern in a windowless cabin.

Here he earned the title, The Good Samaritan of Labrador. He lived to see his dream become a reality: a chain of four hospitals, fourteen nursing stations along the Labrador coast all manned by a trained staff of over 400.
