To the patrons of the Secret Worth Knowing, permit me in lay ing this work before you, to state that I have been exceedingly care ful in compiling the Lilly of the West, mainly to diffuse know ledge among the sons and daughters of this great republican gov ernment, together with my views more extensively on the subject of of Insanity. I have been exceedingly careful 1n treating each sub jcet short and comprehensive, With the view of making them inter esting to the reader. For the very [liberal patronage I have re ceived at the hands of the citizens of N ashv1lle, and also, recently, at the hands of the citizens of each and every city, town and county in whichi have traveled, I return my sincere thanks.
