The Life and Exploits of Alexander the Great is a book by E. A. Wallis Budge that provides a comprehensive and detailed account of the life and achievements of Alexander the Great, the ancient Greek king who conquered much of the known world in the 4th century BC. The book is based on a series of translations of the Ethiopic Histories of Alexander by the Pseudo Callisthenes and other writers, which provide a unique perspective on Alexander's life and times. Budge's work covers all aspects of Alexander's life, from his childhood and education to his military campaigns, conquests, and eventual death. The book also explores the cultural and historical context of Alexander's reign, including the political and social structures of ancient Greece and the wider Mediterranean world. Written in a clear and accessible style, The Life and Exploits of Alexander the Great is an essential resource for anyone interested in ancient history, military strategy, or the life of one of history's most famous and influential figures.1896. E. A. Wallis Budge was the Curator of Egyptian and Assyrian Antiquities at the British Museum from 1894 to 1924. Budge is perhaps best known for translating The Egyptian Book of The Dead (also known as The Papyrus of Ani), as well as analyzing many of the practices of Egyptian religion, language and ritual. The collection of texts contained in this volume consist of the Ethiopic version of the Pseudo-Callisthenes; the Ethiopic versions of the Arabic histories of Alexander by Al-Makin and Abu Shaker; the Ethiopic version of the Hebrew history of Alexander by Joseph ben-Gorion; a short account of Alexander's death and of the utterances of the sages thereon; the Christian Romance, which is probably an original Ethiopian work; and an account of the Vision of Abba Gerasimus.
