Publisher's Synopsis
Kanchha Sherpa is the sole surviving member of the successful first ascent of Mt Everest in 1953. Although Kanchha never made the summit, he was a valuable and much sought after high altitude Sherpa on six Everest expeditions and many other Himalayan climbs. This is a story of his life as told to the author around many campfires during Kanchha's 30 years as a trekking head sirdar. Kanchha lives today in Namche Bazaar and Kathmandu with his family in a life centered on his Buddhist religion, service to others and his many grandchildren.
