Publisher's Synopsis

Excerpt from The Life Work of Mrs. Charlotte Fanning

During the forty years just preceding her death, Mrs. Charlotte Fanning occasionally wrote articles that were published in the Gospel Advocate, or the Religious Historian during the brief period of its publication. Many who read and appreciated those articles desired to have her writings in a more permanent form. They were especially appreciated by many of the girls who were trained at Franklin College or Hope Institute, under the personal care of Mrs. Fanning, and who, having since, that time personally met the perplexities and discourage ments incident to the training of children, realized how helpful those articles would be in molding the character of their daughters.' The idea of embodying her writings in a volume was often suggested to Mrs. Fanning, -but she placed a very modest estimate upon the value of her own productions, and seemed to doubt that her articles were worthy of republication.
