Publisher's Synopsis

As Christians there are spiritual principles or laws that are involved in the legal process of our redemption. The purpose of the text is to understand the place and function of each of these new testament laws given by God under the new covenant. It will look at law as revealed in eternity past; the law revealed under the Old and New Covenants; What happened to the law at the cross; The extremes of legalism and lawlessness; The balance of God's sovereignty and our responsibility; and seek to understand the spiritual laws God has given under the new covenant to transform us by His grace to become like Christ. It can be seen that God is a lawgiver under both the old and new covenants but under the new covenant we are under grace. In Christ we are free from the law of sin and death, no longer answerable to the law of Moses, and made righteous before God by faith. Being in Christ our life now operates in the realm of the law of the spirit, governed by the law of love. It is essential to recognise that Christ's work is a finished work and that we stand before Him justified by grace through faith alone. Our redemption has been fully accomplished by God and we are holy and perfect in His sight in Christ Jesus. We are righteous only because of the righteousness of Jesus and nothing that we have done or can do. But this is only the beginning of our redemption. God now desires to change us and transform our lives. The ministry of the Holy Spirit is to move us from this positional or legal righteousness to actual holiness - this is the legal process of redemption.
