The point to observe closely in the foregoing is that the magi eiaus of Egypt did so with their enchantments. Again, in the thirteenth chapter of Deuteronomy, verses 1-3, the chosen people of God are warned in these terms: If there arise among you a prophet, or a dreamer of dreams, and giveth thee a sign or a wonder, and the sign or the wonder come to pass, whereof he spake unto thee, saying, Let us go after other gods, which thou hast not known, and let us serve them; thou shalt not hearken unto the words of that prophet, or that dreamer of dreams: for the Lord your God proveth you, to know whether ye love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul. That such things occurred during the time of the Savior also, is proved by the following incident found in Mark's gospel, chapter 9, verses 38-40: And John answered him, saying, Master, we saw one casting out devils in thy name, and he followeth not us: and we forbad him, because he followeth not us. But Jesus said, Forbid him not: for there is no man which shall do a miracle in my name, that can lightly speak evil of me. For he that is not against us is ou - our part.
