Publisher's Synopsis
Although John Gower intended the Latin verses in "Confessio Amantis" to serve as an aid to reading, even as a primary means of entry, they have been relatively neglected because of their difficulty. This verse translation attempts to capture both the meaning and the poetic features of Gower's Latin lines. A preface by A.G. Rigg evaluates Gower's achievement in the larger context of Anglo-Latin literature.
