Sophie Lawrence enjoys a luxurious lifestyle. She has never been in need of anything, with the possible exception of a buddy. Her charm, a magical ability that she can't control since she's too gullible and stubborn, develops on her sixteenth birthday.
Also lonely is Faren Malume. He has seen the enchanted suffer at his uncle's hands since he was a baby because he is the King of Castria's nephew and heir. His entire family shuns him when his own charm appears, and the king treats him cruelly as a result.
They must go to The Malume Academy for the Magically Charmed together, just like any other magically charmed person. They spend more time fighting for their lives than learning anything about their new talents, making jail more like it than a school. Faren and Sophie are given the option to join forces and escape their new captivity or get sucked up when they get further caught in the webs of the evil monarch.
