Born at the crossroads of absurdity and faith, "The Judgment of Christ" mounts, in fantasy form, both a savage indictment and impassioned defense of God in the face of human suffering. A young victim of Auschwitz awakens in the Pleroma, the spirit realm, and demands an accounting from the Lord. With Lucifer's aid, she orchestrates a trial with no boundaries and few ground rules. By day the participants argue the issues of authority, justice, evil and love. By night they engage in intrigue, romance, soul-searching, and exploration of a mystical realm that eludes definition and defies all known physical laws. The trial sweeps through the Pleroma like a cyclone, stripping each soul of all protective covering and baring it right down to its core. The climax, at once tragically inevitable and comically unpredictable, forces both characters and readers to face the truth of themselves.
