Publisher's Synopsis

Excerpt from The Jewish Quarterly Review, Vol. 12

But if it is true that the Hebrew text is the original, it is equally true that very many lines have come down to us in a terribly corrupt state. From the number of duplicate lines contained in the Museum fragments 1, and also in some parts of the Cambridge publication, the present writer would conclude that readings from different recensions have been embodied in the Cairo text. The theory according to which these doublets represent translations from the Greek and Syriac respectively, is much weakened by the fact that the expected agreement between the Hebrew and one or other of the versions is often absent in these cases.
