Publisher's Synopsis
Volume I Introductory Manual - This volume forms part of a two-volume work designed as a self-contained study pack for all who wish to learn about the international law of the sea. The manual in this volume is complemented by the collection of materials in Volume II. It will be found useful not only by students of law and maritime studies but also by a wide range of professionals whose work requires some understanding of the law of the sea, be they public servants, marine scientists or others whose business is with the sea. These volumes are published at an auspicious time in the evolution of the law of the sea. The principal treaty governing this area, the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea, enters into force on 16 November 1994 and the attitude of the industrialized States to the Convention has been transformed by the adoption in July 1994 of an important new Agreement amending the UN Convention's provisions on seabed mining. This volume will also provide guidance for law officers and other public servants who have to deal with the implications of these developments for their national legal systems. - - Volume II Documents, Case and Tables - This volume forms part of a two-volume work designed as a self-contained study pack for all who wish to learn about the international law of the sea.
