This paper discusses the contributions made by Field Marshal Colmar von der Goltz on the development of Ottomanmilitary effectiveness, and the impact that he had on Ottoman Army operations during the British MesopotamianCampaign from November 1914 to April 1916. The paper argues that the British overestimated von der Goltz's influenceon the Ottoman successes that led to the surrender of British forces at Kut.
