Thomas Strange, my grandfather, arrived in America his just before his tenth birthday in the winter of 1861. Deserted by the family he had traveled with, he found himself alone, penniless, and frightened in a strange city, thousands of miles from home. More than anything this is a story of survival and the courage exhibited at first by Thomas in his pre-teen years, and continuing as he aged and made his way to Salt Lane City, home of the Mormon Church, and is reunited with his mother and the rest of his family whom he never expected to see again. The story was written and intended mostly to be read by Thomas's descendant family members. Having left ten sons and daughters there are a lot of first and second cousins, nieces and nephews who will find the book interesting. the story
