St. J ohn'e church stands at the junction of Ashwell-street and South Albion-street; _was built in 1855, at a cost of is cruciform, in 'the style of the 14th century; has a tower and lofty spire; and contains sittings. St. Matth'ew's' church stands in Chester-street; was in the course of erection in 1866; is in the style of the 14th century; consists of nave, aisles, and chancel, with SE tower and spire 225 feet high; and was designed to contain sittings.
