Publisher's Synopsis

Excerpt from The Immortals: Masterpieces of Fiction Crowned by the French Academy; With a Preface to Each Volume, by an Immortal and a General Introduction Conveying Official Sanction

M. Georges ohnet, the highly successful author of The Ironmaster, Countess Sarah, and Prince Serge Panine, is a born Parisian; and the same might be said of three of his distinguished contemporaries 'victorien Sardou, Alexandre Dumas file, and Emile Zola - who all first saw the light within View of the towers of Notre Dame. But it must not be overlooked that if Sardou and Zola were born in the French capital they are none the less of Italian origin, whilst Dumas is altogether of cosmopolitan descent, for his mother was a J ewess, and his father more or less Of a mulatto. With M. Chuet the case is different; he is a Parisian born and bred, and his father, his mother and his grandparents were all Parisians before him.
