Publisher's Synopsis
William Hope Hodgson's 1908 classic fantasy, with an introduction by Max Gersh. An ancient house in the wilds of Ireland opens onto a pit of cosmic horror. A reclusive man, who tells us nothing of himself or his sister, is besieged by swine creatures from the pit, which spread a phosphorescent infection that lays waste to any living thing. As the narrator's grip loosens, he envisions an end in a distant future to the earth and the sun, succeeded by the cold emptiness of a dead cosmos.
