Perishing with cold and hunger, he knocks at a house where a light is shin ing, and craves succor. Ah old knight admits him, warms him and feeds him, and discourses with him curiously upon poverty and honor, the distinction between soldiers and thieves, until the vagabond poet's impudence and effrontery so excite the ire of the old noble that he turns out the shameless one.
