Publisher's Synopsis

"She stood in the shallows and watched us with eyes as black as the depths of Ashen Tarn and hair like muddy weeds that cloaked her body with its length. Her lips did not move but still she joined us in the song that was always in our minds and its power was terrifying." In an abbey, deep in the forest, girls greet the dawn on the shores of Ashen Tarn, their voices lifted in song to their Mother within the lake. They are orphans, raised to adulthood then given to their Mother to become one with her. Beitris is the eldest. Soon, she will be taken. But Beitris finds a mirror that shows her the world beyond the Abbey and discovers her life is a one of lies and evil. She must leave the Abbey to seek help to free her sisters and destroy the wicked creature she calls Mother using a power she didn't know she possessed. Beitris enters a world she has only dreamt of. She finds it a place of danger and prejudice with many all too willing to kill her for what they perceive her to be. She journeys to Brugh and meets a man whose strength and gentleness make her love him. But what she discovers about who she really is means that love can never be. The Hollow Song combines Rapunzel with ancient myth and the poetry of Tennyson into a fairy tale about family, love and prejudice, and how birth can never determine who we are.
