Publisher's Synopsis
Excerpt from The History of the Reformation, Vol. 1: From the French of Mons. De Beausobre
This life of Mr. De Beaufobre is (as I have obferr ed in the preface) of very great extent, and goes much into detail on events in foreign courts; which, though conneeted in fome degree, with the incidents attending the mimftry of Mr. De Beaufobre, would not, perhaps, be interefiing to an Englifh reader. I had, at one time, forne idea of tran?ating t/ze wizole of it; but the brfhop of Oxford having been (0 good to dip into that work, and to' favour me with his fentiments, (nearly as above), I have felt it incumbent on me to co-incrde with an opinion refulting from judgment fo much fuperior to my own; andi avail myfelf of the prefent opportunity to tefiify the fenfe I entertain of hrs Lordfhrp's polite and friendly attention.
