Publisher's Synopsis
Ethelred Tressider is a crime writer with problems. His latest novel is going nowhere, a mid-life crisis is looming and he is burdened by his literary agent Elsie Thirkettle, who claims to enjoy neither the company of writers nor literature of any sort. Then his ex-wife vanishes close to his Sussex home, and the local police decide she is the victim of a local serial killer. The indefatigable Elsie bullies Ethelred into embarking on his own investigation, but as their enquiries proceed she begins to suspect her client's own alibi is not as solid as he claims.
