I believed that I was competing to establish my worth, but it appears that I was duped. The liar betrayed... There is, I suppose, some lyrical irony in it.
Unfortunately, neither irony nor poetry will help me or the man I unintentionally pulled into this mess. I have nothing left to offer as a counteroffer. So I have no choice but to accept the exit offered to us by the worst of our betrayer.
