Publisher's Synopsis

Sinachi Ukpabi has been privileged to meet with a wide spectrum of peoples in different parts of the world. In the course of these interactions, he observed that many still know a little about the rich African history and heritage, despite the presence of modern literature and Information and Communication Technology. Realizing the near futility of trying to personally 'educate' the world about his ancestry, race and culture via one-on-one interactions and the near absence of African writers in major American bookstores, he embarked on this project. In The Return, Ukpabi follows in the footsteps of his literary 'Umuahian' forbears like Chinua Achebe, Pius Okigbo, Chukwuemeka Ike, Elechi Amadi, Ken Saro-Wiwa and Obi Nwakanma. He attempts to capture the struggle of the African in the post-colonial 20th century global society, through the experience of Nnaka Alozie, a young man of the Igbo tribe of West Africa. It tells of his travails in the first 30 years of independent Nigeria and his relationship with Claire, a British girl within the complex matrix of interracial marriage, civil war, race relations and cultural heritage, sequel to his audacious quest for the white man's education. The book volume has been intentionally reduced and an attempt made to write in fast-paced but flowing language to also appeal to the 'twitter' and 'face-book' generation.
