Publisher's Synopsis
The winter of 1917, eastern Oregon. A young woman shows up on George Bliss's doorstep looking for a job breaking horses and he hires her. Many of his regular hands are off fighting the war in Europe and George glimpses a determined girl with a serious knowledge of horses Martha Lessen is a female horse whisperer in a man's world. Along the way, Martha helps an ostracized German family to save their horses when their wagon falls into a ravine. She gentles another horse for a dying man and gradually earns the respect and admiration of her new neighbours.
