Rain has the world, as she knows it, spun completely off its axis. Following the unexpected death of her gran, she is set upon the quest of a lifetime. The quest is to discover her true happiness.
The Happiness Quest begins in a solicitor's office. Her gran has undergone assisted suicide (euthanasia) and left her vast fortune to Rain. She has to use it to 'discover her true happiness' and is set upon a five year or less quest. She must return to the solicitor's office in five years' time (or earlier). She goes off on her 'quest' amidst raw grief, promptly separates from her boyfriend, and cuts final ties with her all-but-estranged birth mother. She turns to Google for help, not knowing where she should look for happiness. Typing in 'happiness is...' she is presented with an auto-filled list. She uses this as a blueprint for her quest.
The quest sees her embark on a sky-diving course, a salsa dancing adventure in Cuba, a trip to Vietnam, and three lovers along the way, two of whom she is confusedly simultaneously in love with. After five years, she returns to the solicitor's office, where all will be revealed...
